Located on the banks of the scenic Buffalo River,RiverWorks is the city’s premier water-front, boating, sports, music and entertainment destination. This massive complex is a popular destination for a host of thrilling activities. The two exciting new high ropes courses have been open since June, 2018.
Matt Prime, Director of Recreation, is part of the team creating the new covered aerial adventure courses at RiverWorks.
“We were in a meeting with ownership discussing the possibilities of adding a ninja war-rior style course which took participants up in the air. I mentioned to the owner it sound-ed more like a ropes course than a ninja course, and a couple of pictures later the idea was set and planning started.“
The biggest challenge in realizing this project was the limited time frame. Prime's team approached Treetop Trekking USA, who proudly executed the concept, design and installation, Kanopeo delivered theSpeedrunner CBS.
“We came up with the idea in February and wanted it open by Memorial Day. We put a hard deadline in and Treetop Trekking made it happen. From conception to opening was just under 4 months. The crew at Treetop Trekking USA is simply the best,” Prime de-clared.
The Ropes Courses are under a huge pavilion-style roof above the ice rink area of River-Works, and not fully enclosed. You still get the outdoor feel with the ability to operate on rainy days. The lower course is a great introductory experience while the higher course is more challenging. With 10 elements on each course, there is plenty of adrenaline-filled adventure. Both courses are specificallydesigned for kids 7 years and up.
As Prime notes, “The ropes course works well for large groups—encouraging teammates develops program chemistry and improves communication skills within teams. For ath-letes, the ropes course is a perfect opportunity to improve balance and stability, while tak-ing into account injury prevention. The course is great for all ages.”
Buffalo RiverWorks, as a facility, has surpassed the Buffalo Bills NFL football team for number of visitors per year, and is closely approaching the same feat over the Buffalo Sabres NHL hockey team and Buffalo Bisons (AAA Baseball). The ropes courses hope to turn 10 to 15 thousand of those visi-tors in customers this year.
The aerial adventure courses give Buffalonians and tourists alike just another reason to love the City of Buffalo.
